Oakray are proud to sponsor SW Rocks - Charity concert to help Newmarket footballer Shaun Whiter walk again!

Leading specialist mechanical and electrical services contractor Oakray based in Enfield, North London have recently announced they are the official sponsors of the Charity concert SW Rocks, which is to help boost a £120,000 appeal to help Shaun Whiter after his life changing injuries that have resulted in both legs being amputated at the knee.

On the evening of the 1st July Shaun went out to help his friend change a flat tyre. He did the right thing by wearing a high viz jacket, head torch and had his hazards on. He was getting something out of the boot when a car drove into him. His friend Joey who he had come to help was in between Shaun's car and his own. Shaun’s car shunted forward from the impact and Joey sustained muscle damage on one of his legs. The person who was driving the car reversed and drove away from the scene leaving the boys in a critical condition.

Shaun is alive only because he is an incredibly fit young man, however he has had to have both legs amputated during emergency surgery in the early hours of Saturday morning to save his life. Shaun is going to need lots of equipment and aftercare in the coming months and years and his family and friends want to support him and his fiancé Charlotte Way to make the transition as easy as possible for them.

Oakray Director, Keith Mottram commented:

“Oakray are honoured to sponsor this event, for such an inspirational gentleman. We hope this event will help to boost the £120,000 appeal to help Shaun prepare for when he returns home from hospital and to make his transition to start the new chapter of his life as comfortable and easy as possible”

Included in the great line-up of acts is Georgia Box - a solo singer from Essex. Georgia has over 100,000 followers on social media and is about to launch her first EP 'Love Languages' which will be available start of August. Another great act is the singing electrician, Adam Heapy who recently debuted on Michael McIntyre's Big Show.

One of the organisers of the event, Victoria Kemp, commented

“Shaun is an absolute warrior, a true gent and we are all so proud of his positive outlook on life”.

Shaun used the hashtag 'warrior' when he wrote a Facebook message to his supporters. He said:

“I want to say a massive thank you to each and every one for the messages of support. I can't get through them all with responses, it's an amazing feeling knowing each and every one of you are there for support and thank you so much”.

SW Rocks charity gig takes place on Saturday 27th August 2016 at 19:00, at Bishop’s Stortford Football Club. To buy tickets, priced at £20.00, visit www.swrocks.eventbrite.co.uk
