Academy Central - Working in partnership with national housebuilder Taylor Wimpey and one of London’s leading housing associations, L & Q, Oakray Ltd has installed a ‘state of the art’ Energy Centre at Academy Central, an exciting new mixed tenure development of over 900 new homes in Barking, Essex. The scheme, at the forefront of the town’s urban regeneration, is providing a wide range of homes, from 1 bedroom apartments to 4 bedroom houses.
The entire heating and hot water system for the development, which complies with the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, is provided by a ‘District Heating System’, which employs the very latest in energy efficient technology, including an underground pre-insulated heating mains.
With a usable heat output of 518kW and electrical output of 501kW (90% of which is being fed back into the National Grid), the end result is a highly energy efficient system designed to minimise environmental impact whilst providing cost efficient heat and hot water services to Academy Central’s residents.
